SymbolMix is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy describes how we handle data when you use our emoji mashup and discovery platform.

We only highlight trusted partners such as QuickRef.dev and ShortcutMaster as optional resources for presentation polish and creative planning; visiting them is entirely up to you.

Data Collection

What We Collect

By Default: Nothing

SymbolMix is a local-first application. We do NOT collect, store, or transmit any personal information to our servers by default. All your activity stays in your browser.

Local Browser Storage

We use browser-based storage technologies to enhance your experience:

• IndexedDB: Stores your copy history, favorite emoji combinations, and user preferences locally on your device
• Data Stored: Recently copied emojis/symbols/kaomoji (last 100 items with timestamps), starred/favorited combinations, user preferences
• Retention: You control this data - you can clear it anytime through your browser settings or our export/import feature
• Never Transmitted: This data NEVER leaves your device and is NEVER sent to our servers

AI Features (Emoji Kitchen Mashup)

When you use the Emoji Kitchen mashup generator, we use AI to create unique emoji combinations:

• Service Used: Vercel AI Gateway with OpenAI GPT-5-nano model
• Data Sent: Only the two emoji characters you select for mashup (e.g., "😀" + "🌟")
• Purpose: To generate creative descriptions and mashup combinations
• No PII: No personal information, IP addresses, or identifying data is sent
• Processing: Occurs in real-time; inputs are not stored by us or Vercel

You trigger this: AI processing only happens when you click "Generate Mashup" - it's never automatic.

Analytics

We use Ahrefs Web Analytics to understand how visitors use our site:

• Data Collected: Page views, referrer sources, general location (country level)
• No Personal Data: No cookies, no tracking across sites, no personal identifiers
• Purpose: To improve the site and understand which features are most popular
• Privacy-Focused: Ahrefs Analytics is designed for privacy-first analytics

Data Sharing

We do NOT share, sell, or rent your data to third parties.

The only data transmission that occurs is:

1. AI mashup requests to Vercel AI Gateway (only when you explicitly click "Generate")
2. Anonymous analytics to Ahrefs (page views only)

Your Rights

You have complete control over your data:

• Access: All your data is in your browser's storage - you can inspect it using browser developer tools
• Export: Use our export feature to download your history and favorites as JSON
• Delete: Clear your history anytime through the app or browser settings
• Opt-Out: Disable JavaScript to prevent analytics (though this will break app functionality)

Since all your data stays in your browser, your device's security protects your SymbolMix data. We recommend:

• Keep your browser updated
• Use browser security features
• Be cautious with browser extensions that access site data

We may update this policy occasionally. Check back periodically for changes. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
